NATIONAL CLINICAL MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING EXAMINATION (NCMHCE) INFORMATION

The North Dakota Board of Examiners has selected the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE) as the counselor licensing examination for LPCC. The NCMHCE is a simulation examination which was designed to give the applicant situations in general and specific problem types to work within a practical clinical situation. A clinical mental health counselor is required to make important clinical decisions regarding the well-being of clients. Therefore, a clinical simulation exam is used to more realistically assess knowledge in such decision –making. The problems on the examination are designed to sample a broad area of competencies, NOT the recall of isolated facts. Therefore, the problems assess clinical problem-solving ability, including identifying, analyzing, diagnosing, and treating the problems. The test is scheduled for four hours.

A study guide for the NCMHCE is available through NBCC. Please visit www.nbcc.org for further information.
